JUDGE KATELYN DICKEY
Judge Katelyn Dickey was appointed to the Seventh District Court of Appeals in April of 2024 after winning a contested primary election in March of 2024. She brings experience as a trial court judge to the appellate bench. She was appointed as a Magistrate for the Columbiana County Common Pleas Court and served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Columbiana County prior to being elected in a contested primary and general election to the Columbiana County Municipal Court bench in 2019. Prior to this, Judge Dickey served as a staff attorney for the Court of Common Pleas in Columbiana County, preparing research and writing for the judges on numerous civil and criminal matters.
Upon taking the bench in 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Judge Dickey quickly had to implement numerous safety protocols to ensure the continuation of operations at the court. Judge Dickey applied for and received a technology grant from the Ohio Supreme Court for an electronic check-in kiosk system and electronic scheduling displays that the court still benefits from today.
Judge Dickey is a member of the Columbiana and Mahoning County Bar Associations, the Ohio State Bar Association, Ohio Judicial Conference, Columbiana County Township Association, Columbiana County Farm Bureau, and the Federalist Society. Judge Dickey currently serves on the board of local grievance committee for Columbiana County. Judge Dickey previously served on the board of directors for Leadership Columbiana County. Judge Dickey was an adjunct professor teaching Business Law at Kent State University, Salem Campus for approximately three years.
Judge Dickey earned her Bachelors of Science Degree from Gannon University in Erie, PA. While at Gannon University, she was a scholarship athlete on the Women’s Basketball team and graduated in four years cum laude. She studied law at the University of Akron and received her juris doctorate degree in 2011 and passed the Ohio Bar Examination that same year. While at Akron Law, she was an instructor of the Law and Leadership Institute, which taught youth in the Akron area various aspects of the law.
Judge Dickey was born and raised in Columbiana County and loves being active in her community and raising her own family there. Judge Dickey and her husband reside in Columbiana County with their four young children.
